“My aunt and I began filming after a trip to an African-American museum in Harlem. There I discovered a segment there with mainly light-skinned women as the cover of Jet magazines which made me feel uncomfortable as a black girl because that wasn’t the first time I’ve seen that. After telling my aunt about how I felt, we instantly began filming, I vocalized how I felt about how black girls and their beauty isn’t appreciated enough, not by them, not by the media, not by anyone. This project is only the beginning for helping our black girls know that they are beautiful no matter what they think or what they’ve been told.”
